In his latest "New Rules" segment on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," the comedian and political commentator warned that college life has become a "day spa combined with a North Korean reeducation camp" where students are coddled and protected from any ideas that might challenge their beliefs.
"Trigger warnings are everywhere these days," Maher said. "You can't say anything that might offend someone, even if it's true. You can't even use the word 'trigger' anymore, because that might trigger someone who has PTSD."
Maher argued that trigger warnings and other forms of political correctness are creating a culture of censorship on college campuses, where students are afraid to express their opinions for fear of being labeled as "offensive" or "hateful."
"This is not the way to educate young people," Maher said. "It's not the way to prepare them for the real world, where they will be exposed to all sorts of different ideas and opinions. We need to teach our students to think critically and to form their own opinions, even if they're different from our own."
